The second biggest mistake you can make in your real estate business is relying solely on your brokerage website instead of having your very own website.
If (or more like when) you switch brokerages, you’ll immediately lose it. This means you don’t own it.
It’s the same thing as a renter claiming they “own” the house they’re renting.
The renter lives there… yes… they’re able to furnish it, invite people over, come and go as they please, but there are a lot of limitations to what they can do.
Besides the fact that they don’t own the house, they can’t paint the walls, add new fancy backsplash, rip up the carpet, orrr gain the equity from all of their monthly payments.
It’s the exact same thing with your brokerage website.
You might have a little corner on the internet, but did you know that when you direct people to your brokerage website, they can easily find other agents in your office too with just a few clicks?
Besides owning your website and being in control of your own traffic, you can also:
- Create blog posts (that you own, and can direct traffic to)
- Use SEO to become searchable right from Google’s homepage
- Take advantage of Pinterest and direct traffic to your website (for free!)
- Run Facebook ads
- Host lead magnets to grow your email list
- Provide more value to leads and clients within your website
- Build trust instantly with potential clients and even other agents
And quite literally so much more.
It’s definitely 100% smart to optimize your brokerage website and take advantage of the free online space, BUT it’s also essential as a real estate agent to have your own website that you’re directing traffic to as well.
It’s a subject that isn’t talked about a lot (yet!), but in a time when social media platforms are so uncertain, competition is getting more intense, and commission landscapes are changing, it’s more important now than ever before to set yourself up as the expert and knowledge broker that you are.
We’re curious… what your take on this? Comment and let us know!
